Super Bowl Sunday is here!!!
Well, the big day is upon us!! The Green Bay Packers meet the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLV at 9:29 am Monday (AEST). It is no surprise to see either of the two teams in this game though the Packers did only just scrape into the playoffs on the last day of the season.
For the 2010 season I finished the regular season with a 153-103 prediction record. I tailed off a bit in the playoffs but here I am on the day before the big one with one last shot. After consulting my Psychic Friends, Crystal Balls, Madden 2011, an old table top electric football game an the ashes of the psychic octopus. I am prepared to make my pick.
For the big game in Dallas:
Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Green Packers
Although some have lauded the offences of both teams and are expecting a big score line. I am going with a low scoring affair with a combined total of under 47 points. The Packers are young and unproven on the big stage and quarterback Aaron Rodgers is prone to concussions. That could be a bad sign against a Steeler defence that will be looking to hit him often and hard. Although they did produce a running game in the playoffs, the question is can Green Bay sustain it?
On the other side of the coin, there are questions about Pittsburgh’s offensive line? But they seemed to get through the season Ok. True they will be missing their starting centre but do not think that will be a major determining factor in this one.
I see the Steelers getting an early break or two against a young, jittery Packer team and turning it over to the defence in a “ground and pound” affair. It may not look pretty but I have the Steelers pulling a near shutout.
Score:
Steelers 21-Green Bay 7.
MVP:
Rashard Mendenhall
To everyone back in the USA, sit back and enjoy the game…to the Aussie crew here….pre game breakfast at my place starts around 0830!!!
